LG Expands Its Smart Cottage Series With Budget-Friendly Modular Homes

On October 2, LG Electronics introduced new additions to its LG Smart Cottage lineup — affordable modular homes designed to meet the needs of people embracing flexible lifestyles such as “Five Urban, Two Rural Days” and “Workation” (a combination of work and vacation).

Modular homes are built from prefabricated sections, or “modules,” that are manufactured in a factory and then assembled on-site, offering faster construction and consistent quality.

The new lineup features two models: the MONO Core 27, an open-plan 27㎡ (8-pyeong) single-story unit, and the MONO Core 54, a larger 54㎡ (16-pyeong) single-story layout with separated spaces. With these additions, LG’s Smart Cottage range now includes six different types — available in both one- and two-story configurations and sizes of 8, 14, and 16 pyeong.

A key improvement in the latest models is affordability. The 8-pyeong MONO Core 27 is priced at around 100 million won, which is half the cost of the previous Mono Plus 26 model (200 million won). The new design also adopts a flatter roof for a simpler silhouette and uses standardized module blocks that can easily connect, allowing for flexible layout combinations.

Inside, each Smart Cottage comes with essential LG smart appliances — including an air conditioner, refrigerator, washing machine, and induction cooktop — along with four IoT-enabled devices such as a smart boiler, switch, and door lock. All systems can be monitored and controlled through the LG ThinQ app, giving homeowners seamless control over comfort and efficiency.

Since debuting the Smart Cottage line last year, LG has primarily supplied units to business clients like corporate training centers and campgrounds. However, since June, the company has been hosting open house events to reach more individual buyers interested in compact, sustainable living.

Industry forecasts show strong growth in this sector. According to the Korea Iron & Steel Association, the domestic modular housing market could grow to 4.4 trillion won by 2030. Globally, MarketsandMarkets projects the modular construction market will rise at an average rate of 6.2% annually, reaching $140.8 billion (approximately 194 trillion won) by 2029.

Lee Hyang-eun, CX Manager at LG Electronics’ HS Business Division, commented,

“With an expanded lineup of LG Smart Cottage homes designed for various lifestyles, we aim to popularize the concept of second homes — where people can unwind and live comfortably, wherever they choose.”
